do we REALLY want that header there? it makes it VERY easy to vandalise this page, what with the edit option for the template appearing in every place that template is used.--Kizzycocoa 06:40, 30 August 2010 (PDT)

imo a header isnt even needed.Toadbert
It really isn't. It was just there for demonstration. Gone now! Codewarrior 15:21, 30 August 2010 (PDT)
Now we just need an items template.Toadbert

Portal Block

I think the Portal block should count as a non-solid. It's not exclusively found in The Nether and it's not solid. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by PurpleKiwi (Talk|Contribs) 09:03, 5 November 2010. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

It already is? ultradude25 (T|C) 00:29, 5 November 2010 (CDT)
This tempate says it's a Nether block.--PurpleKiwi 01:20, 5 November 2010 (CDT) (sorry I forgot to sign the other one)
Ah yes, you're right; I must be going blind. Fixed. ultradude25 (T|C) 06:24, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Link to parent

I think the title of the box should link to the Blocks page. It'd make the title that dark blue all hyperlinks are though, so a bit harder to read. Thoughts? JaffaCakeLover 12:54, 6 November 2010 (CDT)

Someone's already done it - I was looking at the Blocks page itself, so the link didn't show up. fair enough! JaffaCakeLover 16:05, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Add images to template?

Following on from the images added to the mobs template, I was wondering if adding images to this template would be useful. There's a work-in-progress template on my user page, what do others think? DannyF1966 06:58, 9 November 2010 (CST)

Ok, I've finished adding images to the template, although I notice a couple of edits have been made to the original template since I started. The new template is still on my user page, let me know if I need to change anything else before putting it "live" DannyF1966 09:16, 9 November 2010 (CST)
only the removal of Redstone (dust). it doesn't belong in the block template IMO :P--Kizzycocoa 09:34, 9 November 2010 (CST)
If Redstone (dust) doesn't "belong" here, then why do Torches, Ladders, Flowers, etc. belong here? -- Toshu (talk) 09:58, 9 November 2010 (CST)
Ok, it's gone live now, I'll leave it to others to argue about what should and shouldn't be in there! DannyF1966 10:24, 9 November 2010 (CST)
redstone dust is the item, the drop-shaped dust. it's wire and torch that are items. flowers are blocks too technically. as they're placeable. you cannot place redstone dust, as it is an entity. you can try to place it, but you will really place redstone wire.--Kizzycocoa 16:35, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, you have a point. In that case, a lot of the information on the Dust page is kinda useless and/or redundant. A lot of it just talks about Wire. -- Toshu (talk) 16:44, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
To be honest, I find it ugly and hard to read. Looked better without the images. ultradude25 (Talk|Contribs) 22:49, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
I don't mind if they're removed, really, but I don't think it's a good idea to have images on the mobs template but not on the blocks or items templates. DannyF1966 22:59, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Well the thing about the images on the mob template is they're nice and clear, whereas these are hugely down-scaled versions of my renders, so they've lost all their detail. IMO, perhaps it'd be better to have a flat texture for the image like the mobs page. Although I don't know what to do about blocks that don't use the same texture on all sides. I guess just use what ever side seems to stand out the most to help you tell what block it is? ultradude25 (Talk|Contribs) 23:11, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Agreed, I thought the same when it was a work in progress and I'd only done the first line. Some of the images work better than others, but scaling them to 25px would make the template too big I think. The images look good on the data values page at 25px though. DannyF1966 18:06, 9 November 2010 (CST)
I happen to have textures separated/enlarged. not all textures, but most. I was making a steam map, but gave up mid-way.--Kizzycocoa 08:52, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Can you upload what you have and put them in a new category "Template Textures" please? DannyF1966 03:31, 10 November 2010 (CST)
I'll find/upload them. I don't have them all though.--Kizzycocoa 03:58, 10 November 2010 (CST)

I've uploaded them all. I don't have special textures (water, fence, portal), and no icons beyond the halloween update. also, the chest icon seems to be courrupted, along with the solid gem blocks. but most are there!!!!!! ^^--Kizzycocoa 04:39, 10 November 2010 (CST)

Thanks, I'll take a look and put a new template on my user page for review :-) DannyF1966 04:45, 10 November 2010 (CST)
no problem! and I look forward to it! :3 --Kizzycocoa 04:49, 10 November 2010 (CST)
Template now available for review on my user page :-) DannyF1966 05:08, 10 November 2010 (CST)

Transportation

What about minecart and boat? On Minecart's page, it's "solid block" type (if this is accurate...), and on Boat's page, it's an "item" type (so I'll understand if boats aren't in this template). --meioziz 08:03, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Ah, I see them in Template:Items. Does this mean the Minecart's page needs to change the type to "item"? Also, are they really items? I thought items are all 2D sprites you can pick up. --meioziz 02:05, 10 November 2010 (CST)
Well, both the boat and the minecart have data values above 255. So yes, they're technically items that create interactive 3D entities when placed into the world. --Barracuda 06:48, 10 November 2010 (CST)

Images

ok, well, we have to choose. this template, or this template.

I vote #2--Kizzycocoa 16:24, 25 November 2010 (CST)

Me too, because it's easier to identify the icons for the blocks in template #2. Just fix the gear icon and I don't think air needs an icon. Metalhannes 16:48, 25 November 2010 (CST)
I also like the flat textures rather than the iso renders, makes it a lot easier to see given the small size in the template. --Lordebon 16:52, 25 November 2010 (CST)
ok, so, 0 for this one, 3 for the second one. any other people want to cast their thoughts into this page?
I vote for the one on my user page (I'm not biased, I put the pics into the other template as well!) Having seen them both, I think the flat images work better at the small resolution than the 3d ones. --DannyF1966 15:45, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
(Oh, and the one on my page may be slightly out of date by now, so don't just copy and paste it without checking it against the master copy first) --DannyF1966 09:45, 26 November 2010 (CST)
I vote for the 2nd one, I'd implement it even, but I don't really have the time at the moment. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:45, 27 November 2010 (CST)
Second one. It's easier to identify the blocks. I think they need an outline because it's hard to see the white blocks like snow and cloth on our white background. --Scykei 00:09, 29 November 2010 (CST)

I've updated my template to reflect recent changes on the actual template (moved mob spawner to "Natural", Jack-o-Lantern to "Manufactured" etc. All indications are that everyone's happy with the look of the new template, so if I don't hear anything to the contrary I think I'll implement it in the next 24 hours or so. --DannyF1966 06:40, 2 December 2010 (CST)

Why are some still iso images? --JonTheMon 14:40, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
some images still haven't been uploaded.--Kizzycocoa 14:42, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, my preference would be to have all the images one way or the other, aka, leave the iso images for now, since they are a complete set. --JonTheMon 15:18, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
I was just about to upload the missing images to find that Kizzycocoa's beaten me to it :-) --DannyF1966 15:52, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
I found all but portals. I swear to hell I saw it in terrain.PNG, right above the water in a similar 5-square layout.--Kizzycocoa 16:01, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, all but stairs is non-iso. However, I would kinda prefer a side view of Iron, Diamond, and Gold, since I think most everything else is side view (and the gradient is different). --JonTheMon 16:03, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
yeah, I'll do that in a while. also, that IS the side view. see the current version of Minecraft.--Kizzycocoa 16:33, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Hmm. I see. Don't mind me then. --JonTheMon 10:21, 2 December 2010 (CST)
no problem. in fairness, there was a side texture. but now, it's all one texture. not sure if it was intentional or not.--Kizzycocoa 16:33, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

So we're as ready as we're going to be to implement the updated template? No objections from anyone? --DannyF1966 09:16, 7 December 2010 (CST)

nope! fire away! ^^--Kizzycocoa 11:26, 7 December 2010 (CST)
I saw that there wasn't a side view of portals, but what about stairs, doors, fences and levers? --JonTheMon 17:49, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
portal=texture needs finding.
door=got one, not used?
stairs=L shape cut-out of wood.
fence=no idea.
lever=the lever stick in the terrain.png

Names of Blocks

Changed the names of Nether Blocks (Netherstone > Netherrack, Lightstone > Glowstone, Slow Sand > Soul Sand) -JKGallagher18:33, 20th Dec 2010 (UTC)

Images Missing

Where did they go and why were they removed? If this was due to an outside discussion, it would be kinda useful to have it documented in some form here. --JonTheMon 14:51, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Found: User_talk:Kizzycocoa#Block_template --JonTheMon 14:52, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Documentation?

Now that the templates have been improved, and include other templates and so on, can someone who'd been involved in the improvements write some documentation on how the templates are now used? This is so that others will be able to edit/maintain the templates as new blocks are added in the future. Does the documentation sub-template work on this wiki? --DannyF1966 12:26, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

What?

  • Why is the template so long, and why does it look so weird? Change it back to not taking up the whole page.--Coupon22 22:33, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Crops

Shouldn't the "Crops" link rather be "Wheat"? – Scaler (t) 10:48, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Sandstone

Should sandstone count as a manufactured brick now that it occurs naturally? do we consider smooth stone or glow-stone manufactured because it can be made artificially?

Repeater image

What's with the ladder used as repeater's image? Is it just a placeholder until we get a real picture or has something gone awfully wrong? TheKax 14:47, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Looks fine to me. Try doing a forced refresh (ctrl+f5). --JonTheMon 15:22, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
