Not to be confused with a Beacon block

Beacons (or "Noob Towers") is what more advanced players of the game call 1x1 pillars going upward.

A Picture of a Noob Tower.

You can easily create a Noob Tower by getting a block (any block) and simply repeat these steps:

  • Jump
  • Place Block
  • Repeat

Beacons often are very high, usually until the player runs out of blocks. Beacons also often go out of render distance.

Beacons have also become a (not-so-popular) method of Skywars, a game where each player spawns on a different island with different resources and try to kill each other to be the last man standing. Players of the game sometimes use Beacons to escape the other players and start a base in the sky, where no other players can reach.

Origins of the name

The reason players refer to 1x1 upward pillars as Beacons is to mock the way "Noobs" (new players to a game) try to escape hostile mobs. Upon seeing hostile mobs for the first time, "Noobs" will 90% of the time (upon meeting hostile mobs for the first time) will run to the beacons.

Alternate Names:

  • Noob Towers
  • Derp Towers
