New Seed - GRAPE

Hello!

I confess I am an addicted minecrafter and I wanted to ask what you think about adding grape/wine into the game.

Wine could refresh health as well as grapes themselves and you could make wine taverns. I think this would be a nice addition.

Maybe by drinking too much wine the player falls asleep or is not able to go into the direction the char should go. :)

Illegal activity?

While watching minecraft videos on youtube the other day I came across something I think might be illegal.I found a youtuber showing how to get free accounts with minecraft updating as normal.I don't know how to add a video but the title of the video is how to get minecraft beta for free with auto updates. If memory serves when you buy minecraftit the user agreements states not to distribute and in fact there is even a splash that says it should we tell notch? In the video description there is a ink to a site that is giving it away. The person that made the video says that Notch in person told him that it was okay and that getting it from this site was legal and fine and that the yogscast got it this way seananners got it this way ect.But I don't beleive him Someone needs to tell notch badly. Pages for Items and Mobs for Mods?

Translations

Hi! I'm pretty new here. I want to translate this wiki into Hungarian, but to do that, I have to be in the Autoconfirmed usergroup. I don't have problems with the 3 days; I have a problem with the 10 edits. This whole wiki seems flawless, or at least contains everything I currently know about Minecraft. I have no new mechanism to share, no more information about anything than it is shared on this wiki. I don't know how I am supposed to make 10 edits without the possibility to create more pages. So if someone helped me, like, those who have powers to create pages, create Hungarian pages (just find a page, like Redstone, and overwrite it so it says Redstone/hu, then copy and paste the original English text in it and save) and list them on the Hungarian project page under the last title (Fordítás alatt lévő oldalak; Pages under translation), I would translate them and I'd be grateful. There aren't many Hungarian editors out there and none of the Wanted pages want Hungarian translations. But I have an urge to translate. Please help! TunSha 16:33, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Every edit counts, including small 1-character changes. Look around for articles that could use re-wording or things like that.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 07:30, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Map name

Im editing the Nether page right now, and i frequently need to refer to the "above ground map" in a world. This is tedious and sort of misleading, so I wondering if we should to it as "Earth" or something? This would probably need its own article, but it could be added to the Map page or something. Outdated AND Removed

Can someone please tell me why we have an Outdated category AND a Removed category??? Shouldn't we put them both under one name? --Yurisho 06:03, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Category:Outdated is for features that have been erased from the Minecraft code (used by the {{Outdated}} template), whereas Category:Removed is for features that have been made unobtainable in the game but are still in the code (and thus obtainable with hack or editors) (used by the {{Removedstillingame}} and {{NotInGameYet}} template). I've changed the descriptions of the categories to made them more explicit. – Scaler (t) 09:47, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
That is completely and utterly backwards. Category:Removed should be for features that have been removed, whereas features that are in the game, but cannot be used without mods, should be in something to the effect of Category:Unobtainable or Category:Unusable. Category:Outdated, if it is kept at all, should be converted to a maintenance category marking pages which need to be updated with new information, e.g. if the feature's behavior is changed in a game update. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:32, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Water elevators

The Water elevators are incorrectly labeled as outdated. Due to update 1.6.6, they will work again, granted you use only source blocks in the vertical shaft. If not using only source blocks, the boat will get pushed down by the current. Simpler said: Downward currents actually push boats down now. Water elevators will still work, if you make it so that there is no current. Krostog 15:21, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Peaceful to Hard to Peaceful Mode

I was just wondering if you were on Peaceful mode on Minecraft Beta 1.6.6, and it was day. Then you

got in your little hideout at night, all safe and protected, and turned the mode on Hard. Then, you waited till sunrise, when all the skeletons and zombies catch on fire, and you turned it on Peaceful. Would the stuff that the skeletons and zombies drop still be there for you to collect?

Depends if the zombies or skeletons are already dead when you switch peaceful. When switching on peaceful, hostile mobs despawn without leaving items. Calinou - talk × contribs » 20:48, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Style guide / capitalization

I wish we had a rule which specified whether the names of game items should be capitalized in sentences or not — to take an example from Book, “Books can be combined with wooden planks to craft bookshelf blocks.” versus “Books can be combined with Wooden Planks to craft Bookshelf blocks.” I have no strong preference for one or the other, but I would like there to be an official choice — preferably one which doesn't require [[...|...]] syntax every time an item is mentioned.

Furthermore, I propose that this and other similar choices be written in a style guide page (analogous to the [Wikipedia Manual of Style]) separate from the more critical Minecraft Wiki:Wiki Rules.

Blue Bevel

A slight complaint about the design of the site - why the black-font-on-blue bevel which is being used everywhere? Wouldn't it be a better design choice to remove the bevel, and settle for a white-font-on-blue style instead? - Bioran23

I'm not entirely sure where you're looking, but the background can be changed in your preferences page under 'appearance'. If you're refering to the standard wiki style, it may be intentional by the admins to promote editing and corrections as needed. By the way, white font is generally a bad design choice for walls of text. Qcdynamics 00:08, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
The header style was developed to "mimic" minecraft blocks using the blue from the wiki logo. I'm sorry you don't like it. I also agree that white font would just be bad and that the black is much more readable. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 14:14, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Revisiting "Autoconfirmed" status for page creation

I would like to remove the Autoconfirmed status requirement for page creation and better utilize the AbuseFilter extension to combat the spambots. This has been implemented on the Terraria Wiki very successfully, and it would eliminate the inconvenience to the general editing community. Opinions? -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:40, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Totally agreed. I've already suggest to Quatro to use AbuseFilter in order to fight massive spam/vandalism and it works very well. – Scaler (t) 08:46, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
I think this is particularly for the English wiki very useful. But it also means more work for us, because we have to control everything. -- Oliver Scholz de.Wiki Admin 13:04, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
The same filters will be implemented on the German wiki as on the English one, however, I have not seen much evidence of spambots on the German wiki, I don't see that it will be that much more work. You can also use the AbuseFilter extension to replicate the required preview if you wish.... -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 13:06, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
I should read before I write, because I found a very nice german description... Yes, please test it. :D -- Oliver Scholz de.Wiki Admin 13:24, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Recent appearance hiccup

So, a few days ago the font and zoom on the wiki got borked for a bit, and I noticed that something new got added (and subsequently removed): a feed to forums and a feed to notch's twitter account. I used chrome and only really noticed the feeds at the bottom of the page, but then I checked it out in IE and it really borked the page: on my screen it took up about 20% of the right side of my screen, really squishing the content. Did anyone else notice this and was anyone else bothered by it? --JonTheMon 16:40, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Using FF4.0.1, it first borked up the font and threw stuff under each page, which moved to the left of the page later that day.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 17:24, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Do we want to mention something to Curse so that it doesn't happen again? --JonTheMon 12:44, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
"Please do not add this sidebar at all, add it to the right bar instead. kthx"--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 13:11, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Here's a look at what we want the right sidebar to look like:

and another sample actually on the sidebar:

The hope is to drive more traffic to the news page and also highlight the official Twitter also. We can look at the statistics in real time to see how useful people find the new links, and the goal was to test the spot for a weekend and see how it performs. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by DoranM (Talk|Contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~

So, yeah, on my screen that takes up like 25-30%, and with the left sidebar taking up like 15%, that adds up to my content being really squished. An abbreviated sidebar integrated into the left bar (possibly with collapsible sections) might be a more space-efficient plan. --JonTheMon 15:36, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

What resolution and screensize do you have Jon? DoranM 15:42, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Depending on the location, somewhere between 1024 wide and 1280 wide. --JonTheMon 15:46, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
I strongly object this bar. it would just make things clunky. besides, who is going to look at Notch's blog/twitter/news all the time? we BARELY update the news as-is already, and Notch only posts in short bursts. I think for the sake of ten minutes, for what is usually idle chatter from notch, we can sacrifice these to the main page, if they're even needed.
or, the left sidebar. that would be acceptable as well. but right? that's too claustrophobic, and the chances it's useful to someone, if it were put on the main page (which in my opinion is more likely to happen due to functionality) is next to zero.--Kizzycocoa 16:28, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Using 1920x1080 at home on my desktop, and the bar would use 17.5% of my screen. On my laptop however, which runs at 1366x768, the bar would take up to 24.5%, which doesn't leave much space left for the content and the main bar. Now, on 1280x1024, which is a resolution used by a lot of schools (remember, a lot of crafters are teenagers) and people who use 4:3 monitors the bar would take a full 25%. Considering this is most likely the most used resolution, adding a bar that takes 25% of the screen space is just insane and a really bad choice of design. Besides that, as Kizzycocoa mentioned, Notch's twitter is mainly casual and doesn't have that much Minecraft in it at all. We're better off making a list on twitter with all the Mojang guys in it, and then using that feed instead. As for the location, how would it look like if the left bar got enlarged by about 30 pixels, and then a twitter box under the navigation controls? It reaches all users and shouldn't cripple the size of the content.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 16:45, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Is there going to be any acknowledgement of these concerns before an implementation? --JonTheMon 16:32, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Can you integrate the sidebar into the already existing sidebar on the left? There is a lot of white, unused space on the right. Drenay 16:51, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
