Pillar jumping (also known as pillaring) is a method of reaching a higher altitude that can't otherwise easily be reached in a map. Once used, it cannot be used by other players. Pillars created in this way are useful in editing adjacent tall structures. However, they also cause the map to look uglier, and many may leave pillars without destroying them.

Method

Pillar jumping is achieved by repeating the following steps:

  1. Aim at feet
  2. Hold right mouse button
  3. Hold space.

Responsible climbing

In levels where there is a lot of ceiling-level construction, pillars can seem a tempting way to get to where the action is. However, bear in mind:

  • These are not useful to future users
  • Build with a collapsable material (sand or gravel) so that they can be easily destroyed from ground level once used.
  • This is generally frowned upon in multiplayer if used for no construction reasons, as it makes the landscape uglier and many may leave pillars without destroying them, or (in zombie survival servers) make zombies unable to get to you.
