Not sure if you're aware of this, or even if you're the right person to be discussing this with, but I recently found this. It's basically a blog-style site that uses advertising to get money (they also give away "free" minecraft accounts if you complete the advertising surveys). What's troubling is that they've directly copied-and-pasted info from this wiki in some of their posts regarding minecraft; in short, they're using this wiki's content to make monies.

Anyways, I just saw this and figured I'd give someone a heads up. --Novatastic 03:50, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Provide specific examples of where information has been copy/pasted from this site (information the is not available verbatim from any other minecraft source), and we might be able to get them for copyright violations. However, any information that is transcribed directly from the game, or available on other sources is free game. I'm happy to look into any reports of violations. Unfortuantely there are several other minecraft sites (one even registered http://www.minepedia.com ) -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 04:37, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, their images under "Complete Recipe List" on [1] seem a bit like screen caps of our pages. --JonTheMon 04:51, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
The primary problem is that prior to the move to Curse, this wiki had no copyright policy... so everything posted is technically posted under the Public Domain. It gives us no legal grounds to stand on as far as anyone taking the information posted here. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 15:57, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Does this wiki have a copyright policy even now? As I type this, I'm looking at a link under the edit box saying "Minecraft Wiki:Copyrights", and that link happens to be red, indicating there isn't a copyright policy at all... --DannyF1966 19:01, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
All contributions now fall under the Curse.com Terms of Service. All contributors automatically hold copyright to their own contributions, so you can feel free to contact any site that "steals" your personal contributions and request they remove them. However, as a site, prior to the acquisition by Curse, there is no consolidated policy. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 17:21, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

MCWiki NL

Hey there, it looks like the Curse banner on nl.minecraftwiki.net is completely broken. Could you please have a look at it?--Quatroking - Garble Garble! 02:57, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I'll have Bumble take a look at it, she deals with the footers. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 02:58, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
The problem is it is missing the css entries. Bumble needs to be given admin access, or someone needs to copy/paste the footer css from here to there. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:04, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Doesn't Bumble already have admin access? AFAIK users on EN have the same rights as on any other language.--Quatroking - Garble Garble! 11:34, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
I don't have admin rights there, so I don't believe she would either.. you do, so just copy the stuff in MediaWiki:Common.css over and the footer will be fixed. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 11:38, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey! You are honestly the only name I remember from any wiki community... Well you and KarateJesus, but just cause that name is badass... But :D gw2 can't wait! idk if u remember me but I was messing with your awesome templates on the gww. Well, see you around! Hope your awesome wiki skills can help clean this place up! :D Fright01 04:16, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

We're working on it :D -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 04:17, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

thankyou

I was wondering why this was happening and couldn't find a way to contact an online admin/mod to ask why, I appreciate your message. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Scythesabre (Talk|Contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

To contact an admin, leave a message on Minecraft Wiki:Admin noticeboard. There is a link in your navigation bar to the left. :D -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 10:56, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
What colour are the admins that are currently online? Blue? –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Scythesabre (Talk|Contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
You can check the Recent changes log to see if any of them have made recent posts, or you can simply post your message on the noticeboard. Most admins have the page on their watchlist and will be notified of any additions/changes made to it. The colors of the names simply indicate whether they have created a userpage or not. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 11:09, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Fixed

I changed my signature so it had a lot less characters. Here it is-Kjam (talk) 01:06, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks... now you should just add it to your preferences and give up the template :D -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:07, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Copyright

What is the curse policy on copyrights? Like, what are all these contribs released under? (Oh, Minecraft_Wiki:Copyrights could probably use a little text or links). --JonTheMon 19:49, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, we are working on that... as of right now, it's covered under the Curse Terms of Service. Unfortunately, we can't just add a copyright license after the fact, so I'm waiting to hear back from Curse legal for specifics. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 19:55, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Right... I knew that (after the fact part). --JonTheMon 20:13, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
I revised the copyrightwarning that comes up with each edit, so now there is no giant red link to the copyright page, but rather a link to the Curse Terms of Service. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:40, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Android app?

I don't know if this is the right place to make such an inquiry, but I couldn't find an email. I'm the developer of Wikidroid, the #2 Wikipedia app on the Android platform; I'm also an avid Minecraft player, and I was wondering if we could partner to create an Minecraft Wiki Android app, using Wikidroid as a base. I already have the app working & ready to go, but unlike Wikipedia, Minecraft Wiki is not licensed under a licence allowing us to use your content for commercial use, so in order to release my Minecraft Wiki Android application, I would need some sort of permission from Curse. If Curse needs to have their own ads in the app, that would be fine, as long as we can have our advertisements there too. Other Minecraft applications on Android have almost 250,000 downloads, so there is potential for revenue here!

If we could work out some sort of agreement, this would be great. Even better would be if this app could be officially blessed by Minecraft Wiki. Contact me at isaac@siriusapplications.com. Thanks. Isaacwaller 19:37, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

I have brought your post to the attention of the Curse Content manager. He should be contacting you soon. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 23:19, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
I couldn't help but to notice, is there a Minepedia app yet? I'd really want it for my Android. Drenay 22:38, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, considering this post is only a little over a week old, I wouldn't hold your breath. You might want to email Isaac yourself. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 23:25, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

The Itemlist file

Hello. Is there any possibility to licence my itemlist under this lincence? I am okay with removing the URL then.
Regards, Marvin 16:17, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

By uploading it to this site, you agreed to license it pursuant to the Curse.com Terms of Service. You retain your own copyright, but the advertising has to go regardless. The page history shows that you are the one that originally uploaded it, and there is a link on the edit page to your userspace, where you are free to add whatever advertising for your site you wish. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 18:03, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Bot

My recent changes log is hurting, perhaps you should follow Gnu32 and be making a separate account for your bot work as well. Assuming all the template/category changes you just made were done with AWB, that is. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:33, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm just getting the categories set up for the most part... the bot will be doing all the page moves etc. And no, I don't have AWB set up here, that was all me :P -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:34, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
I actually got a good laugh out of your post ultradude, considering when I hide my edits in RC all that's left is you :P -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:38, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes but I have an excuse. I'm too lazy to set up a bot, so instead I do it all... manually. Hmm, that backfired. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 02:28, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

A word of warning

An image in your signature weighs incredibly heavily on the server; this is why their use is forbidden in signatures on wikipedia.— dαlus Contribs 03:27, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, they aren't forbidden here, and the image I am using is incredibly small. If it were an issue on the server believe me, I would know about it. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:41, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
AFAIK, it's only an issue if lots of different images are linked to on the one page (which is why we had to start using sprite sheets), so it's only going to cause problems if everyone starts using images in their sig. However, this does raise the issue of if it should be made a rule to prevent that from happening in the first place, I'm sure that is the reason Wikipedia has it. And in that case, are we going to say no to everyone having images in their sig, or are admins/bureaucrats or perhaps only Curse staff (so they are easily identified with the flame in their sig) going to be given special permission to do so? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 04:54, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
It's not even that. Most gaming wikis that are much larger than this one allow images in signatures. They simply restrict the size of them. They also put recommended limits on the size of talk pages combined with archiving policies. This isn't nearly as big of a problem as using templates in signatures is. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 04:58, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Your opinion on events?

Twice I had deleted a page on the Machinima live steam with notch because I deemed it useless. Now I see the events category, and I am wondering what events exactly are we allowing pages on, or are we perhaps going to have an Events page where all events will be listed, or will be sub-pages. The creator of the page asked on my talk page and I would like if you could help resolve the issue as I am not sure what event pages are allowed. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 04:54, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, I think there are multiple types of events. Mojang sponsored events, and Player sponsored events, just to name 2. I would think there is room to document all of them, they simply need to be noted properly. We could create an Events page and have the different types of events linked in their own section. I personally have no issues with players creating Event pages for events they are sponsoring, as long as that page clearly denotes that it IS a player sponsored event, not connected with Mojang. They should however be directed to do the majority of their "advertising" on the forums, and any Event pages should fit with the overall style of MCW (no wild backgrounds etc..)
We always have to remember that we are here to document the game, but also to support the community and provide them easy access to information about the game. This should include special events. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 05:13, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Translated Templates

Is it O.K. if we translate templates under our userspace? Drenay 02:38, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

The problem is, all the command level stuff is also going to have to be translated when the subdomain is set up anyway. It is coming, I can't tell you exactly when, but it is on the IT guys' list of things to do. I'm sure there are still plenty of things that need translating. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:09, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Template Error

Okay, so, I checked a Template, this template: Removedstillingame, what It said was all the HTML nonsense with the title and stuff like this:

<includeonly></includeonly> :<noinclude></noinclude>

It needs to be fixed, could you fix it for me? Or is it just a natural Curse HTML error? It repeats the title in the text. I'm not very good with HTML, so please fix it.

 YaYaBinksMinecraft  (T|C) 06:06, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

This looks better in edit mode, my friend.

I'm not sure exactly what it is you are having a problem with. The code you displayed is the appropriate code for that template. What is the problem? The problem you are referring to is something ultradude did to the msgbox template in general. Still trying to work it out. Has absolutely nothing to do with Curse. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 06:11, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, It reapeats the title in the text.  YaYaBinksMinecraft  (T|C) 12:11, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Award

This page belonging to a user has been blanked.
This has most likely been done due to the presence of broken links on the page, usage of deprecated infobox parameters, and/or the general inactivity of said user (defined as no edits for at least 1 year, although exceptions can sometimes be made).
If this is your userpage, then you can retrieve the contents of this page in the page history. Images formerly on your page may have been deleted, so contact the wiki administrators to have them restored.
However, please ensure that links, files and templates on your userpages continue to work as intended, and that these pages are free of maintenance errors that may place them in maintenance categories. Failure to correct these may result in subsequent re-blanking or the problematic areas being commented out or removed.

I have a question

Hi and good night from Spain, Wynthyst. I have a question for you about articles.

I can sign in the articles? For example, this article.

Thanks for all, Senak (離す) 01:02, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Signatures are for talk page posts only, not within articles. Articles are written for and by everyone, so signatures are really inappropriate. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:30, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
And the note of traslations are correctly? (Ex. Pig/es) Senak (離す) 15:41, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
Put the translation notice at the top of the page. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:16, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
I know put the code Spanish translation in the top. I mean the Note of Traslation As always, thanks for all. --Senak (離す) 20:34, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Being a Wiki Admin.

Wynthsyt, After reading a topic on the minecraftforum.net forums about the wiki needing more admins, i thought i might apply. I have had prior experiances with uses wikis for other games, like dead frontier, pokemon, and Call of duty. And have helped sort and type information for them. Altough only being able to speak english, I think my help could help perhaps just a little bit, or make a big impact. Not sure if I need to post contact information, but anyway I'll post it regardless; E-mail; Email removed MC Forum Name; xNightmare

Thanks Nightmare. Keep your eyes open, more information will be forthcoming! Currently we are really looking for admins for the Dutch language wiki, but with as popular as Minecraft has become, there's always room for more here on the English wiki as well. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:25, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
I'll always be available. ~Nightmare

Interested in being a Wiki Admin

Hey Wynthst, I saw your post on the minecraft forum, and it immediately grabbed my attention. I fluently speak Dutch, along with English and a couple other languages, and I'd love to help. I 'm a frequent contributor to the actual wikipedia, along with being a site owner. Not sure if previous experience really matters here, but I thought it may! :)

I see Nightmare posted his contact info, so I shall do the same:

Image resizing?

Methinks you grok the .png habit better than I, so might you take a look at:

Tutorials/Quarry [2]

The new pic is rather nice, and has a good relative field of view, but I think its size is a little screen-busting. Is it worth asking the OP to resize it, or is this something you would normally just do yourself and repost the pic? -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 03:57, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Uh.. just change it to a more normal size? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 04:13, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, resizing is something anyone can do. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 05:03, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

I know a fairly good user from the Urban Dead wiki whos first language is Dutch, and is fluent in English. He may be interested in being a moderator on the Dutch Minepedia. I'll get him in touch with you guys?  ANNOYING  04:31, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm fully aware you might not want a user recommended by me, but he's a bro, don't worry.  ANNOYING  04:33, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
I have no problem taking your recommendations into consideration. I know we got off to a rocky start, but I'd like to see that change. I would just like to see more positive than negative attitude. We are seriously trying to make this a better wiki in the best way we know how. I do hope that anyone who is acting as an administrator (on any of the Minecraft wiki sites) will also be an active contributor. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 05:05, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
