Hidden Passages

As stated in the info page, paintings can be walked through. I've place a painting and dug out the blocks behind it and created an awesome secret room. However, it seems the painting will not seem to stay and disappears after a save and restart. I've even tried leaving the edge blocks all touching using the extra large painting, but still no dice. Has anyone managed to keep a painting around with a hole behind it? Maybe a door? I'd love to hear what you guys think. MrMatthew 17:31, 22 October 2010 (CDT)

I have many door-paintings. they're great!--Kizzycocoa 17:40, 22 October 2010 (CDT)
Must be a bug, I never experience that problem. Either that, or every time you're loading the map or exiting the Esc Menu screen, you're pressing the left mouse button while looking at the painting. --DigiKep 00:22, 23 October 2010 (CDT)
I'm usually never near the painting when I save/exit. Can either of you guys provide me with some pictures or diagrams? Does this only work with a certain size painting? I have to imagine I'm just doing something wrong. Thanks for the responses! MrMatthew 22:22, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Creeper Painting?

I'm not sure if this is updated but, I've managed to get a 1x2 painting of a creeper with the painting of a mountain range behind it along with another picture within the picture. I would update the painting gallery here but I dont know where to find images.

It's already in the list, right above the hand & fire picture. it's just a little small, and hard to see in the picture provided. --Coolpilot 05:09, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
I wonder why you'd even paint a creeper. honestly, they scare you enough in caves, why introduce a doppelgänger into the house? you might mistake it for a real one, especially as it's copied, pixel for pixel X3 --Kizzycocoa 10:33, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
It's hilarious though, I've actually scared myself with that painting a couple times. It's a pretty funny picture actually, if you look at it long enough. The creeper is just like, "Hallo! :D How are you today?" --DigiKep 23:13, 19 October 2010 (CDT)
I put that painting right in my doorway in multiplayer. Scares the crud out of people. =)

Block information

Does this page need block information like all other blocks have? Need somewhere to show what it looks like in inventory and all the data values. –ultradude25 (T|C) 09:54, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Paintings arent blocks though. I modded the item template a while ago so that it could be used on all items.Toadbert

"Fighters" identification

Minor Trivia Note: I believe the two figures in "Fighters" are the characters from "Way of the Exploding Fist" for the Commodore 64, though I'm not sure why the one on the right is blue. (Re-added under a new topic for organization)--Loendal 01:02, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Its from the Nintendo Entertain System game "Kung Fu". --IronMaidenRocks 01:51, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Paintings Vanishing

Last night my friend and I built this really cool admins library type place on our server and I covered the walls in paintings. When we logged off, the paintings were still there but we logged on tonight and the paintings were all missing. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, my friend said he couldn't see the paintings I set on the walls.

Multiplayer is buggy. ConMan8 22:03, 26 October 2010 (CDT)
I noticed paintings vanishing when I was trying to place them and the dig out blocks from behind them (see above in Secret Passages). Maybe a related issue? MrMatthew 14:02, 27 October 2010 (CDT)
My paintings vanish too. Even when they ARE there, other users who enter the room cannot see them. Strahan201 15:37, 6 December 2010 (EST)

Wikipedia links

The links to Wikipedia in this article seem out of place. They aren't strictly relevant to minecraft as a speciality wiki. They should probably be removed but I'd like to get some feedback instead of acting unilaterally in this. --XipXoom 11:59, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

I think these links are helpful for those that don't know what Counter-Strike or King's Quest is. But I agree that the links need a different style so that they can be recognized as interwiki links. --Barracuda 09:14, 13 November 2010 (CST)

Interwiki links

The reason I changed them is that they give no indication at first glance that the user is leaving the site. In my research I couldn't find any information on how to make them appear as external links while still retaining all the interwiki benefits. --XipXoom 12:03, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

That's the point of interwiki, it's not counted as external as you're just going to a different wiki site. Also the fact that it says wikipedia: in the title is kind of a hint... –ultradude25 (T|C) at 12:13, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Which is why I changed them. Because its unintuitive for a user to click a link on a wiki and be whisked off to another site with no obvious indication its going to happen. Wiki users expect internal appearing links to be internal. The only relation this site has to wikipedia is the software run. There is no reason to treat that site (or any mediawiki site) the same as internal links on this wiki.
In any case, I think the point is probably moot as the links don't seem appropriate anyways. Are we going to link every topic we reference to wikipedia? It should be an all or nothing, and frankly the 'all' would be a mess. --XipXoom 12:22, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
To be clear, I'm not disagreeing that the interwiki links are technically superior, they just need to be styled properly. Once again, probably moot though as I mentioned in my previous message. --XipXoom 06:34, 13 November 2010 (CST)
If the interwiki style can't be edited, maybe Template:Wikipedia should be created that adds the Wikipedia icon to the link instead of the long "wikipedia:".
It could look like this: {{Wikipedia|Page name|Link text}} --Barracuda 15:03, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

New Dye?

Can you make a painting with a dyed cloth block? I was reading about them this morning.

Paintings can still be made with coloured wool blocks, but do not produce any different designs, as far as I have seen. --JKGallagher 23:11, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

New Painting?

[1] Didn't see that one on the list, So might it be new? And might there be more? Or is this just some bug? --Imppa 21:25, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

That painting appears because Notch forgot to add the painting into the game.--GlitchKing 22:52, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

"Pepperoni"

In case anyone is interested in unimportant details, the translation "A kebab with three pepperoni" is wrong. Well, technically, it's an accurate translation, but that's only because the original Swedish title is misspelled. The last word (in Swedish) should be "feferoni", not "pepperoni", the former translating to "peperoncini", which is a pepper, not a sausage.

So, should this article use the technically "correct" translation or the translation of what the artist actually meant to call it? --Smallhacker 22:48, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Don't know if it matters, but if you look at it in danish it is correctly translated and spelled, so maybe it's not swedish but danish?.. --Kristofferlc 09:01, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Big paintings

I've been trying and trying for nearly an hour, and I can't get a painting bigger than 2 by 2. The wall I'm putting it on is 5 by 5, and I'm putting it on the bottom left hand corner.

Just read that placing the painting one block above and to the right of the lower left hand corner would have a higher chance of creating a large painting. Just tried it out and it seemed to be much more effective than the lower right. Metachrono 19:46, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Creepy Paintings

I hope they get someone else to do the paintings. The guy who does them, his paintings are the weirdest things ever. --IronMaidenRocks 01:52, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Skeleton painting spawning skeletons?

I have a well lit room with no areas open to outside. It has a skeleton painting in it and 4 times in a row i tried to sleep and got woken up by a skeleton in my room. Can the painting spawn skeletons when you sleep next to it?

No. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 05:16, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Hidden Passage NOT WORKING

I've been trying to create a hidden passage for the past hour now, and I'm using a 2x2 painting. Every time I mine the "door" out from behind it, the painting instantly comes off. I know I'm not hitting the painting, sometimes it even takes a few seconds for the painting to come off after the blocks are gone. I've tried it in both SSP and SMP, but to no avail. Did it stop working after the update?? Holy crap, HELP! --Gidvid23 06:40, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Do not remove the door. Or place 2 signs or ladders instead of the door, at the same place. Calinou - talk × contribs » 10:05, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
