To do

Okay. When I proposed this page, I had something very great in mind but this article feels very lacking. I do not have the time and dedication to do it right now but I thought I should leave some hints on how this page should be. An example is in the RS Wiki: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Upcoming_updates

The reason I wanted this page was so that the semi-confirmed upcoming updates, which might have very little information on how it will turn out and without a good timeframe. Some of these pages are Adventure, Zombie Siege, Capture the Flag, Realistic Mode, Pigman, Trap Block, Scarecrow and Lantern. This will avoid useless stubs which might be left in this Wiki forever if they are not implemented at all.

Also, there should be a more specific mob section, where we can then take them out from the mobs page, instead of just a general "More mobs" statement. Updates which have been implemented should be removed, instead of letting them linger around here.

This is just a suggestion, and hopefully someone with enough dedication will make this article turn into something great. --Scykei 09:46, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Wolf

Are you sure the release date is April 1st? I hope nobody's lying. I'll blow up like a Creeper if anyone's lying. Rocĸetor talk 06:30, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Yea, the date seems to have been removed. I really hope they fix the 2-5 minute SMP delay in the next update... It makes SMP nearly unplayable :( --Zkyo 13:11, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

That's alright. An extra two days is fine at the max. Rocĸetor talk 05:54, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

It will take a 100 years to get used to the new key.

So change it in the controls menu ._. --Zkyo 13:08, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Pistons

I was watch a YouTube on the Mincecraft modification 'Pistons', which allows the player to shoot eachother or sand and gravel into the air. With floating blocks, it will push the block up one and leave it there. Now the creator of this mod was asked by Jeb_ if he would like to post it for future ideas. So the creator did this, and since Jeb_ asked him to submit it, it may well be a candidate for a future update. --Rocĸetor talk 20:26, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Booster Tracks

Jeb tweeted that Booster Tracks will be added to the game today. I wanted to add this to the page, but I don't know how to quote a single tweet. Somebody help me out please! Metonymia 20:22, 9 April 2011 (UTC) Metonymia

Occlusion Culling?

What is occlusion culling and what effect would it have in game?

Occlusion culling is basically one method for not rendering stuff that isn't seen (because it's behind other stuff that *is* seen). It should speed up the game by a decent amount (in theory, at least). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:21, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

At far and normal viewing distances, It doubles your FPS! The disavantage is that if you turn rapidly your mouse, you may see "empty" zones.

I know how to make references, but how do i make those big tweet page references? like [1]? how do i get the link? --Rocĸetor talk 01:57, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Hotdogs

Okay, hotdogs are OBVIOUSLY not going to be in the game. Notch was clearly re-trolling when he clarified that he was joking with his first tweet. Can we agree to remove references to hotdogs?--Rockerest 16:01, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

im just happy no one took the hydra-pig joke seriously either.--Higbey 16:04, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

When pigmen come out, i bet they will get electrocuted into zombie pigmen and pigs that get struck by lightning will turn into hydra-pigs. --Rocĸetor talk 21:47, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Whatever Does This Mean???

"Notch has stated several times on Twitter that he intends to add some way to display items such as armor and weapons"??? What? Can't we already see armour and weapons in your inventory and on other players? Is this a residue from older versions? Vincent2128 04:56, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

No, I added it fairly recently. It refers to a display case or rack block that can be placed like other blocks, and would "hold" otherwise-unplaceable items such as armor or weapons/tools. It's a popular request, and I've seen several tweets in Notch's feed stating that he intends to add such a block at some point. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:59, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
There are already mods that do this, such as the shelf mod, which is why Notch probably wanted to add it. --Rocĸetor talk 06:29, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Water Ladders Post 1.6

"Fixed entities reaching water through wall corners " Why do I get the feeling that this might be the final nail in the coffin for Water Ladders? Well, we'll find out after wednesday/thursday for sure. Rage 12:17, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

I thought the same thing when I read it. This would only affect invisible water ladders though right? TheTexasHammerMC 22:29, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
It depends... If it just fixes corners, then yes, but it could be larger, to take sides into account too. Then they would all break. --TheKax 16:19, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
I checked it. Water ladders do not break, but climbing them is only as fast as climbing normal ladders :( Raymaniak 22:02, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

"It’s no longer possible to build solid blocks on the top layer of the maps (sorry!)"

Is this a bug or a new feature? user:tygor97

It's a bug fix (or more accurately - a measure to fix several bugs related to the top layer of the map). --Warlock 14:39, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Hopefully, though, it won't do anything to blocks that are already on the top layer... ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:00, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Ether/Aether

Doesn't the PC gamer article and Notch's subsequent twitterings effectively confirm this is coming? Would add news/an article to this effect myself, but being a new contributor thought I would ask here first!

Game content section

How would we integrate this? http://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/77324091174035456 Drenay 22:44, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

I thought about adding it, but to be honest he didn't particularly promise the feature. Someone said "It would be cool if..." and he responded "Yup!" So really it could go either way. Maybe he wants to add it, or maybe he's just agreeing that it would be cool (even though it's too hard to add, or it would take too much time, or _insert some other reason they aren't going to do it here_). It may be worth referencing the Tweet under the "more mobs" listing or something though. --Warlock 23:49, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
I went ahead and added it as a reference there (especially since it had a [citation needed] for some reason). --Warlock 23:55, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Undocumented blocks

What is the policy for blocks or other Minecraft related stuff that is not yet in the game, nor is known if it ever will be? Watching the 20-ish minute Documentary of Mojang (the link is somewhere in the references for this page), I saw a few items that are not in the game, nor have been talked about in twitter as far as I know. The "Obsidian Chest" is an example, and can be seem in the full video. Just wondering if stuff like that deserves a page or a mention at least on the site or not. —Neithan Diniem 15:16, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Labels for Items?

What do you mean Labels for items? The tweet was in "secret pirate language" so I can't get more information from that. What does it mean?

1: Sign your posts with ~~~~.

In the EN-US.LANG file, there are a bunch of empty strings (for example, cobblestone.desc). This might be what they're for. FelixGriffin 17:57, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Didn't he say somewhere that, after seeing the sharks added by some mod, he felt that having aggressive mobs in the water was too difficult or something along those lines? —Neithan Diniem 14:49, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Maybe putting them into just really deep water and unable to attack boats? That would finally give at least some use to the boats. (Now they're just pretty much for waterslides and long water trips, because water elevators got nerfed) --TheKax 16:15, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
I don't know about you, but I use boats for faster movement over water. Also don't forget EATS roads. —Neithan Diniem 02:00, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

New Half Blocks

I guess I was just tricked by the perspective. Notch mentioned that there are spoilers on these pictures, so I tried finding them :P Blay09 17:40, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
I can't see anything on the nighttime one (at least on this monitor) so I can't comment, though I assume it's the same deal. But yeah, I don't know what Notch was really talking about there. The only thing I noticed that seemed out-of-the-ordinary on those pictures were the obvious lighting differences with the nighttime/torches, and that the ocean color actually seems slightly different. I suppose maybe notch added water colors to biomes and that was the big change he was talking about? Or it could just be an artifact of the new lighting system... --Warlock 17:44, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
There are no new lower blocks round there. I think the only spoiler on these pictures is this strange light color. Raymaniak 22:02, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Fence blocks made opaque?

As we can see from the video, torches can be now placed on fences. AFAIR, torches cannot be placed on transparent blocks. And then there's one thing I thought about, that vid has a lot of stacked fences, and fences aren't placeable on eachother as well. So maybe Notch just made fences opaque blocks? OR made it somehow that it's not the transparency that decides what can be placed on what... Of course, pure speculation. --HTMLCoder.exe 23:35, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Fences can already be stacked, but torches cannot be placed on them. FatherToast 18:32, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, they can be stacked, but the process needed currently to do it is time-consuming and annoying IMO. If you just could stack them the way you could stack, say, cobblestone, that would be great. --TheKax 16:12, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

TheKax: bukkit plugin exists for that. I think Notch made an exception, otherwise fences would have a strange look.

Guns, DRM, MMO?

Hey guys, from readying Notch's twitter; he's adding guns, DRM (?), some pre order DLC things and making Minecraft an MMO. Is this supposed to be like a joke or something? I'm confused. Nanosoldier 17:14, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Obvious joke is obvious ;) --Lordebon 17:53, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Supposed 1.7 updates

Two items in the wiki are linked to an interesting post by Notch. It goes as follows: Poperorfofekoktot! Jojagog fofixoxadode coclolayoy-bobugoggogenon, soskoka lolägoggoga totilollol lolabobelolsos popå itotemomsos nonu This seems rather useless as a reference link, and thus it seems likely that "the clay bug will be fixed" and "labels for items will be added" are likely. Also, it should be noted that "labels for items will be added" is rather odd, as there already are text labels for items. If there is an intelligible explanation, please reference that rather than this tweet. Darkid 14:24, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Can't somebody simply translate it and put somewhere (forums?)? Raymaniak 22:02, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Outdated announces

Some of the announces are very old. I think the oldest is the "More underwater content!" announce from the main page, which refers to the tweet from... 04.02. Maybe really somebody will consider making a page for the things that "maybe may be in game"? Raymaniak 22:02, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Curved World??

The reference is to Notch's twitter post here: [2], and presumably he's talking about this image: [3]. I see nothing to indicate a curved world; instead, I see the camera POV getting distorted due to the wide angle of the MC window. You can replicate this effect by running MC windowed, and shrinking it vertically. Instead, this screenshot tells me that Miner Steve's true identity is actually none other than Luke Skywalker. Sandwich 17:43, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

I agree, no world curvature. Put back the "flying" description. Calinou - talk × contribs » 19:20, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

"World curvature" - what? No, that's just the 3D

Obviously in the picture the 3D makes the world 'look' curved. Just open Minecraft, go into any world, and look on the edge of the screen - it's all stretched. Obviously the real thing is flight, unless everyone is blind? LB 21:46, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Physical Copy?

The "Full Version" 1.0 description says that a physical copy of the game will be sold. I've never heard of this before, and it seems mighty unlikely that it will be released on a physical disk. Has anyone got an actual source for this, or should it be removed? IVI4tt 21:16, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Features not in 1.8

On notch's blog he says "To come is more interesting farming, bigger incentives to explore, and npc villages." He says "To come" after he talks about whats in 1.8, suggesting these features won't be in 1.8 and instead will be later.

"Already implemented are new complex terrain features, at least one new mob, some interesting new combat mechanics, a new lighting engine, and some experimental new gameplay ideas. To come is more interesting farming, bigger incentives to explore, and npc villages."
He's listing what he has already done first, and what he plans to do second. Seems pretty self-explanatory to me. Shellface 18:50, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
