Ok, how do I get started?
The language version of the article Egg would be Egg/lang - just add /lang after the address of the English wiki article. Save this to start a new page in language.
- * Then go to the English version of the article you want to translate in a new tab in your browser and click on Edit in the upper-right corner of the page. Select everything in the box and copy it. Paste the original article into the new language article and translate away!
- At the very beginning of the language article, make sure you add the template {{project|Language translation translation}} to display a little box to indicate the page belongs to the project and to add the article to the language translation category.
- * Edit this project page and put a link to the article you're translaing in the Progress list under Pages being translated (* [[Egg/lang]] ~~~~) to avoid redundant or conflicting translations. The 4 tildes will sign your name and put a timestamp on the article you are translating.
- * Look at this list to find recipes and item names. Copy and paste the recipes you need in your translated article (leave out the templates marked with {{ }}). Preview your page repeatedly until you like what you see, then save it a final time.
- * When you're finished, remove the link from Pages being translated and paste it into Translated under the appropriate section, replacing the link text with the translated name of the article ([[Egg/lang|Egg lang]]{{•}}) in the list.
- * Now pick another article to translate. :P
Guidelines
- Try to preserve the same general style/syntax as original page - that'll make it easier on everyone, especially you!
- On the other hand, be reasonable when translating - don't feel too bound to the word-by-word syntax of the original article if it makes the translation anything but conversationally informative.
- DO NOT copy-paste text to and from Google Translator and the wiki! Please have some consideration for semi-fluent and native speakers who will be sent into minute agony upon seeing the bad renditions of articles on their favorite game. :P
Help! I can't create new articles!
If you've just signed up and find that the site won't let you contribute new pages right away, don't worry. This is a normal precautionary measure for all new wiki members to avoid bots and vandals spamming and/or destroying the Minecraft Wiki. From Wynthyst (Curse staff):
- "You have to be part of the Autoconfirmed usergroup, which means registering and confirming an email address, waiting 3 days from when you registered, and making 10 other types of edits."
Alright, where do I sign up?
Add your name by editing the Roster section. Remember to add ~~~~ to the end of your name to mark the date you joined up. Good luck!
