|Starting Version||Unknown (Mid-2000s)|
Not much known is about the "RubyDung" game, because of how long ago it was made. A total of just five screenshots were released by Notch depicting this development phase. RubyDung was originally intended as a "base-building game," inspired by Dwarf Fortress. Notch also took inspiration from zombie games of the time, leading him to incorporate Zombies into RubyDung. Notch has mentioned that for a time, he was interested in having some gameplay aspects that would parallel Dungeon Keeper, but after playing Infiniminer, he decided this was the direction he wanted to take in developing the game.
This version of Minecraft contained a few blocks which can still be found in the game today:
- Grass Blocks
- Dirt (Unconfirmed)
- Stone (Rarely seen)
- Trees (a primitive version)
- Wood Planks (Unconfirmed)
