Image resizing?

Methinks you grok the .png habit better than I, so might you take a look at:

Minepedia Copyrights

Is there a page for what the copyrights either Curse.com or Minepedia claim over the wiki's content? No, no wiki material is subject to copyright unless it is specified so (ie; an image) MoonBeans 20:09, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Um, that's not correct. All material, whether text or images are subject to copyright or licensing. Each contributor holds copyright on their submissions by default, but unless otherwise tagged, all content falls under the Curse.com terms of service, meaning Curse owns it, and it can not be used by other sites without their permission.-- Wynthyst

Header Tabs

You mentioned on the historization page that you could use header tabs, could you explain that to me? MoonBeans 19:50, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Here is a page on another wiki that uses it. http://www.faxionwiki.com/Vainglory it allows me to "stack" the tables, however, it can be used to do the same to text or any other data. Also, the tabs can be configured to look more like tabs with outlines etc. It simply worked better on that wiki to not do it that way. -- Wynthyst

GermanWiki collapsable/expandable

GermanWiki deleted crafting output files

Minecraft Sports

Hi Wynthyst,

you just deleted my entry as Minecraft Sports Discussion. I'm sorry if that was not the apropriate place to make a suggestion. But I really like to learn more about Minecraft Sports and think that would be an enrichment to this wiki and not very simple stuff everyone already knows.

So were is the right place to do such a suggestion?

And I'm also wondering why things get deleted here so quickly and unrecoverably. I was hoping to still find a history with older versions of that stuff, so that things aren't completely lost.

The forum is the proper place for that kind of stuff. I believe there was some discussion about "sports" on the Community Portal talk page (Minecraft_Wiki_talk:Community_portal/Archive_3#Sports_subpages), you might want to check the archives. Things that are inappropriate are deleted when they are found. Since category pages can't be moved, there really is no option other than to delete them. Everything that gets deleted can be restored, but a random category talk page is unlikely to be. -- Wynthyst

Dutch wiki

Dear Wynthyst, I have a few questions regarding the dutch wiki.

First: I made a basic layout for items on the Dutch page for Bone, since it wasn't in use yet. [2]. One of the Dutch admins liked it but told me to consult the English admin. The titles in English are:

1. Availability (as in, where to get it)
2. Usage (as in, anything except crafting)
3. Crafting (literally: Processing, we have no good dutch translation for crafting (I checked multiple sources for that word)) (Both using workbench and Furnace)

(There is a small bug with the crafting grid in there, since it's still a work in progress from another user, so I don't know the name of the bonemeal file yet.)

4. Trivia (Facts like release day etc)
5. References (obvious I think)
6. See also (Articles that can be of particular interest for people who read this one)

Second: Since the "Been" article I somehow lost my ability to create a new page. Is this a very recent change in policy, or did I do something that has caused me to lose this right?

Third: The Dutch version of the wiki seems to lack a Citation Needed template, is this something I should report to you or a dutch Administrator?

We changed our configuration slightly this morning to make it harder for spammers to attack the wikis. To get your page creation rights back you simply need to make 10 other edits.. go fix some typos or something and have it be at least 3 days since you created your account. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but we've had ongoing spam attacks and this is the best way to resolve them right now. As for page layouts and page titles, I want to see all 6 sites working in sync on this kind of stuff with the English wiki taking the lead. So if there is an article on the English wiki, it should be followed as far as layout etc, on the multi lingual subdomains. As for templates, talk to the Dutch admins, or wait til your once again able to create pages and do it yourself :D -- Wynthyst

Dear Wynthyst, I have had a look at the first 12 items in the items table, but there are differences in the page layout. Which item should the page layout for future item-related dutch articles follow? The Dutch version I just posted did contain everything that occured in the English item pages, but not all english item pages contain all sections. Directors discussion page

Some of the text I've seen about Project:Directors suggests that it's intended to be specifically admin-only. I understand that it's meant to be a central discussion point for all admins from the six language versions of the MC Wiki, but is the intention indeed to have it closed to non-admins, or is that just a misunderstanding on my part? 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 01:44, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

No, that is the intention. If you wish to have input on any of the topics, take it to the admins of your wiki. While nothing that is done on any of the wikis is intended to be done without community input, the director's page is strictly for dialogue between the admins of the various language sites. -- Wynthyst

All right, I'm not going to argue it, but I will voice my opinion that it seems an unnecessary restriction, especially given the technical nature of the discussions currently taking place on it - if I have something I want to say there in relation to technical matters (especially templates), but have to go through an admin, I have no guarantee they will be able to correctly articulate what I'm wanting to say, and even less guarantee that they'll quote me instead of trying to rephrase it, or even just offer a link to my comment. I appreciate the desire to control who participates in these discussions, but it may be better in the long run to at least allow those non-admin editors with technical inclinations and experience to participate in the technical discussions.

Now, as for why I asked this, based on my skimming of the crafting template animations discussion, it looks like the German wiki wanted a loop extension installed so they could have animations without needing actual animated images. If this is the case, I was going to point out that, since Javascript is being used anyways, it would be possible to create a pure JS solution to this (making use of class names), without needing any additional extensions (though I myself don't know nearly enough about coding in JS to create such a solution). 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 02:03, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Well that discussion was on this page to start with, and the extension has already been installed. Feel free to go to the template page, or to the admin's talk page and discuss your ideas there. Registering a bot and :pl mediawiki configuration

Hi, I want to use a bot account. Is it possible to register User:R2-D2 and fr:Utilisateur:R2-D2 (on the french wiki) as bots? Thanks

Also I have issues with the pl wiki when I was testing the bot:

First off, what do you want to do with the bots? We already have 2 bots on the English wiki, I'm not sure there is a need for a 3rd.

On the English wiki just fixing/adding interwiki links. Thanks for adding the bot flag on the French wiki. I will add the projects log on the bot page soon.

It seems the error is due to the fact that the "scriptpath" on the pl version is different than on the other languages versions (ex with the main page pl.minecraftwiki.net/Strona_główna while on en it is: www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki)

I think I will have the same problem with the ru wiki. I will first try to look if this is configurable on my bot options. – Scaler (t) 09:34, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

It seems the error with the pl: wiki, comes from a special character (BOM, Chacter Issues on mediawiki.org) on the api.php or an other edited file. Is it possible to save them as utf8 without BOM? Thanks – Scaler (t) 22:21, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately not that I know of, it's because of the polish alphabet. Since it's the polish language wiki, we are not going to disable the polish alphabet. -- Wynthyst

I agree to not doing that ^^", but BOM is not part of the polish alphabet, it is just a useless character added by crappy text editors like windows notepad when the file is save in utf8 encoding (more info here: BOM). The only way to fix it, is to open the file with a good text editor (notepadd++ for example) and without editing the file to save it in utf8-without-bom encoding. – Scaler (t) 07:36, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey Wynthyst, guess who jumped on the Minecraft bandwagon? ^^

I was wondering how to make new pages, or at least, how to register correctly (since that should let me do that). Clicking the link on the main page just goes to the log in page, then back to the main. Cant make a user page, but can make talk pages. Is this the way this wiki is set up, or is it just me (the likely answer, with my luck). Couldn't find a page to put a topic like this on either, and your the only friendly face.

We had some spam issues, so, you have to get autoconfirmed before you can create new pages. (3 days and 10 edits) Just make some typo corrections or some such and wait the 3 days. Watch your usergroups in preferences. Nice to see you here too. -- Wynthyst

Alright, I admit those posts were over the top. ERROR

I got an error on the Dutch wiki will you might take a look at it?

The error I get: Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/minecraftwiki/public_html/includes/parser/Preprocessor_DOM.php on line 980

It's on the Dutch Crafting page. I keep getting the error, even after several refreshes.

Directors

I noticed you've added the directors page to the sidebar, which is great, but it also shows up for people that aren't in the directors group, which is rather useless to them. Would it be possible to make it only show up for directors group? Or was this intended functionality? –ultradude25 ^(T|C) at 07:42, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

If every person who is a director (and no one else) is a member of a given usergroup, JS could be added to MediaWiki:Common.js which checks if the user is a member of said group and, if not, to hide the link (the logic could also work in reverse, though that might be a bit more work). 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 08:08, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

no redirect

Why would German players be looking for English names? And no, I don't believe there is a way without using the semantic extension which we don't have. -- Wynthyst

1. Why have users the right forcepreviewexempt? This was different (I think)

The forced preview was removed for registered users as per the discussion on the community portal talk page and yes, I got Chuck's message, but that's in the footer that is serverside. I've asked for it to be updated, but it's not a high priority atm. -- Wynthyst

No. Anything that has not actually been added to the game, can be added to the wiki, but it has to be tagged as a {{future}} feature. The article should have clear references cited, and be obvious that it is not yet implemented into the game. -- Wynthyst

Image uploading permissions issue

I have confirmed my email and verified this in my preferences pane, but I still get the following error when attempting to upload an image:

not enough pages? really?

Some days ago you say the german Wiki has not enough pages, respectively the english version has much more pages. Today I look why:

some redirects like "Grey sheep" in the "All Pages" list (en:1126 total / de:339 total)
other languages (ko, sp, ...)
when i click at Special:AllPages I see ~1500 pages, why?

Today we have 322 content pages, the english wiki 801. I think with this background knowledge that is a good value.

I agree Oliver, the German wiki is doing better than most of the other languages. I do however see 82 pages listed on your "Wanted pages" list, I know most are redirects for English terms, and that's ok, but it's something that can be fixed. My concern is not so much with the German wiki, as with some of the others... Again, I think you guys are doing a great job! -- Wynthyst

Page Creation

First of all, there is not a page on Herobrine, because it doesn't actually exist in the game, and the community has decided it doesn't belong on the wiki. Secondly, you can create pages once you are a member of the Autoconfirmed user group. That requires you make 10 standard edits, and wait 3 days from the day you register your account. -- Wynthyst

Image error

While working on the Dutch wiki, I find some weird error:

As you see, I tried renaming a file, but its says the file already exists. But if I try to view the 'already existing file', it says that it doesn't exist... --STS^(t|c) 21:17, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Template:Atfad

Hey Wynthyst, would you mind explaining what this template is for? I seem to have been mistaken when I tagged it for deletion as a vandal template, but I can't figure out what its purpose might be - as far as I can tell, it should just result in the insertion of a string of random-looking characters when transcluded, though said string doesn't appear either on the template itself, or when manually copy-pasted and previewed - is it some sort of seed or hash value or something? 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 05:44, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
