Double slab damage values

Do double slabs use damage values for different materials like single slabs do (and if so, do the damage values all match up)? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:44, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Double slabs must be using damage values, and it would be crazy if they didn't match up. I haven't taken a look at the 1.3 code yet, but earlier versions had the same class for both single and double slabs, with a parameter to indicate if it was double-high or not. Assume that they just added another parameter (material type) unless someone shows evidence to the contrary. D0sboots 08:19, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
I'd be very surprised to find the values didn't line up, but I've seen much more surprising things as far as programming goes. All in all, better to double-check unnecessarily than to just assume and have the assumption proven wrong (though perhaps it's best to assume until the double-check is done). ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:21, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Images

Just so everyone knows, the infobox images for single and double slabs (not the inventory images) and the crafting images are all just placeholders; they need to be replaced with animated versions that cycle through all four slab types, vis-a-vis wood or Category:Crafting animations. I don't know how to create these images myself, though; any takers? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:44, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for getting the crafting animation, D0sboots (though it seems to me it could stand with a slightly longer delay between switching block types), now we just need the infobox images. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:52, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
I'll tackle the infobox images next. I copied the cycle times from the Stairs animation; although it's a bit snappy I think it's the same as all the other animations. D0sboots 08:16, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
I looked around some after I wrote that, and it does seem to be the case. IMO they could all use an extra tick or two between image changes, but maybe I'm the only one really bothered by it. =D ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:18, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
Actually, it looks like Ultradude25 is handling the infobox animations, as well as doing them for pressure plates and doors. Props. D0sboots 09:10, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
Awesome, cool to see it all done now. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 09:21, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Animation

Has anyone else noticed the animation goes: cobblestone, wood, cobblestone, sandstone? Where is the smooth stone slab? JesusChrist666 22:30, 3 March 2011 (UTC)JesusChrist666

Which image are you talking about? All the animations are correct for me. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:56, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
The crafting one. (Not the one on the side.) JesusChrist666 13:13, 4 March 2011 (UTC)JesusChrist666
File:Crafting Slabs.gif? Now that I look, a user uploaded a less blurry, smaller (in terms of filesize) version of it on March 1. It was reverted less than two hours later because it was indeed missing the stone slab recipe. If you're still seeing that image, you need to bypass your cache. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:33, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

How to so stairs

Slabs are perfect for doing stairs with out jumping, like this:

              block (any one)
          slabs

Everyone knows, and sign your comments. Calinou 22:10, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Collapsing stacks.

I noticed that if you make a stack downward of slabs (a single slab then 1/2 high of air, then another slab, to whatever size you want), if you try to place a slab at the top of the stack(both directly on or 1/2 high of air above it) the entire stack collapses into a single block at the bottom. I would add this but I'm not sure how to word it. --Sithenin 05:00, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Very interesting... I just tested this myself, and both confirmed this and discovered a similar bug (they may be the same bug, actually) where if you try to place a slab, and then try to place another of the same slab one block above the first (leaving a half-block of empty space between them), the second slab gets placed directly on the first, making a double slab. It may be possible to utilize this in some way as a default-closed gate, though I'm not sure what it would be used for. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:22, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
It could make interesting hidden areas on adventure maps that are very hard to find if you make an entire floor of half blocks with a collapsing pillar in a corner or something pretending to be floor. --Sithenin 05:39, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Aah, so it could. I was stuck on thinking about sand-/gravel-related contraptions (which wouldn't work, since you can't place a slab in a half-block space). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:01, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Mob spawning

I read somewhere that mobs do not spawn on stone slabs. Could that information be added to the article? Also, does this hold true for cobblestone and wooden slabs? --Joshua Issac 20:12, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

As far as I know, it holds true for all half-block-type objects, most likely including stairs. -AlphapT~C 21:46, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

This information does exist on the wiki, you just have to know where to look. instead of looking at slabs or stairs, look at mobs and spawn conditions. It will tell you mobs cant spawn on blocks that are transparent at which point you can look here to find out which blocks those are http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Transparency BlackDragon13x 22:20, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Textures

The animations all need to be changed as single slabs use the bottom half of the texture now.Toadbert
